Moroccan Police Chief Suspends Officer After Fatal Shooting of Two Civilians

According to a press release from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), Abdellatif Hammouchi has decided to suspend the inspector who killed two young people from his duties, before referring him to justice.
Last Sunday, July 7, the police inspector in question had arrested four individuals in an advanced state of intoxication. The fierce resistance of the latter forced the officer to use his service weapon, killing a 35-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman.
Having acted in self-defense, the inspector was nevertheless suspended from his duties by the DGSN services, which confirmed the agent’s responsibility. The follow-up to the investigation, conducted by the Directorate, made it possible, thanks to a video of the crime scene, to confirm his civil liability. He is accused of serious professional and legal violations and will be brought before the court.
Thorough investigations, under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, are being carried out by the specialized services of the Judicial Police, in order to determine the circumstances of the crime and the involvement of other suspects in the case.
