Moroccan Police Boast 95% Crime Solving Rate in 2021 Amid Pandemic Challenges

In 2021, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) achieved performance rates of 95% in the repression of crime in general and 80% in crimes associated with violence.
During the year just ended, the DGSN has waged a fierce fight against crime in order to strengthen the sense of security among Moroccans. In this sense, and to effectively cope with the Covid-19 health crisis, it has tried to review its annual work plan, and to strengthen the scientific and technical police, as well as the units specialized in the fight against crime.

These actions have helped improve the quality of security in several major cities in the kingdom. In terms of figures, the DGSN processed 1,153,741 summons cases during this year, which led to the arrest of 1,425,102 people referred to the public prosecutor’s offices, an increase of 43% compared to last year. In total, the DGSN handled 45,829 cases of violent delinquency and arrested 31,188 people who were brought to justice, which represents an increase of around 15%.

Regarding drug trafficking and psychotropic substances, 82,950 cases were handled by the DGSN, which succeeded in arresting 103,589 people, including 261 foreigners who were brought before the courts. In 2021, the institution made a record seizure of 433 kilograms of cocaine, compared to 132 kilograms last year. In addition, 38 people suspected of terrorism and violent extremism were apprehended by the National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ).
Similarly, 150 criminal networks specialized in illegal immigration were dismantled during this year. In total, 12,231 candidates for illegal immigration were arrested and 742 forged travel documents, 67 inflatable boats and 47 engines were seized.
