Moroccan Police Arrest Five for Alleged Homosexual Acts in Tangier, Facing Potential Prison Sentences

Police elements arrested, on Saturday, February 20, five individuals caught in the act of homosexuality in an apartment in Tangier. They face up to three years in prison.
The arrest of these five individuals aged 24 to 31 followed a complaint filed by neighbors for noise disturbance. During a police raid, they were arrested in an apartment on the Tangier corniche. They were caught in the act of homosexuality. After being brought before the public prosecutor’s office, they should be prosecuted for homosexuality, according to Assabah. One of them will be prosecuted while in custody, while the other four will be prosecuted while at liberty. The preliminary investigation reveals that the apartment they were in was used by its owner for prostitution activities.
During their interrogation at the police station, one of the accused confessed. He told the investigators that he had been having intimate relationships for at least five years with one of the other individuals arrested. In accordance with Article 489 of the Penal Code, which criminalizes "licentious or unnatural acts with an individual of the same sex," the accused face 6 months to 3 years in prison.
