Former Moroccan MP Sentenced to 2 Years for Fake COVID-19 Test Scheme

The former MP and regional secretary of the PJD in the Drâa Tafilalet region, who helped a police recruitment candidate obtain a fake Covid-19 test certificate, was sentenced to two years in prison. This is the verdict handed down by the court of first instance of Errachidia.

In addition to the former MP of the Justice and Development Party (PJD), the other people involved in this case of falsifying a Covid-19 test certificate were also convicted. The administrator of the Moulay Chérif hospital, who had issued this false certificate, was sentenced to 3 years in prison with a 5-year ban from working in the public service, while the police recruitment candidate and his brother were sentenced to 1 year in prison, reports Assabah. The second brother of the latter was sentenced to 6 months in prison with a suspended sentence.

According to the facts, the former PJD parliamentarian helped a young man who tested positive for Covid-19 to obtain a false negative test certificate, in order to take a police officer recruitment exam. After the written tests, he had to take the oral exam and was required to provide a negative Covid-19 test certificate. Finding himself in difficulty, his brothers sought the help of the Islamist leader, who intervened with the administrator of the Moulay Chérif hospital. However, the Kenitra Police Institute discovered the deception. The candidate was arrested.

During his interrogation, he confessed. Subsequently, the elements of the National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ) arrested the former MP and the other people involved in this case of falsifying a Covid-19 test certificate.
