Moroccan MP Ousted Over State Land Misappropriation Scandal

A member of parliament was stripped of his mandate for his involvement in cases of spoliation of land belonging to the state, the forest domain and the Ministry of the Interior (collective lands). This is revealed by a recent report from the General Inspection of Territorial Administration (IGAT).

"This report has been made available to the walis so that they can take the necessary decisions within the framework of their prerogatives, in accordance with the provisions of Organic Law No. 113-14 on municipalities," reports Assabah, specifying that other parliamentarians, as well as presidents and vice-presidents of municipalities, and elected officials, would also be involved in these cases.

"The alleged facts against certain municipal presidents and their vice-presidents would be extremely serious, are detrimental to the communities they administer and, moreover, fall under the provisions of Article 64 of the same organic law," adds the daily, stressing that "great elected officials have broken all records in terms of spoliation of forest domain lands, in particular by proceeding to their transfer to others or by authorizing constructions in flagrant violation of the laws in force".

With the support of certain parliamentarians, these elected officials launch real estate projects on forest domain lands, without carrying out studies or obtaining the necessary authorizations from the competent urban agencies, thus violating the Urban Planning Code.
