Moroccan Opposition Party Rejects Hosting Negev Summit with Israel

The Party of Justice and Development (PJD) has expressed its opposition to the organization in Morocco of the 2nd Negev Summit, with the participation of Israel. Abdelilah Benkirane’s party has always looked unfavorably on the restoration of relations between Morocco and Israel.
The 2nd "Negev Summit" is expected to be held in Dakhla in March with the participation of the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Egypt, and of course Israel. In a statement, the PJD expressed its "categorical refusal to host any event with the participation of Israel in Morocco."
It was in December 2020 that Morocco, at the instigation of President Donald Trump, committed to normalizing its relations with Israel in exchange for the United States’ recognition of the Moroccanness of the Sahara.
Since then, relations between the two countries have improved with the signing of many agreements in several sectors, even though this rapprochement has been denounced by some, including the PJD.
