Moroccan Opposition Party Calls for 4-Week School Reopening Delay Amid COVID-19 Surge

Faced with the resurgence of new infections, the Political Bureau of the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) has demanded the postponement of the school start by four weeks.
In a statement made during a weekly videoconference meeting on Monday, August 24, chaired by its Secretary General Abdellatif Ouahbi, the members of the PAM bureau spoke out on the decision of the Minister of National Education regarding the school and university start.
For the members of this party, this decision is considered as an abdication of responsibility on the part of the government. According to the PAM, it would be characterized by "ambiguity and lack of clarity".
Regarding distance learning, the political bureau also reminded the government of the social divide. The party also believes that this postponement could allow all stakeholders in the educational process to make the right and appropriate decision. As for the university start, the members of the Political Bureau wished for the participation of university presidents in making appropriate decisions.
During a meeting of the Education, Culture and Communication Commission in the House of Representatives, the Minister of National Education recalled, on Wednesday, August 26, the consequences of changing the date of the resumption of classes on the students. As a result, Saaid Amzazi opposed any postponement of the school start in view of the unpredictable development of the epidemiological situation related to the coronavirus.
