Moroccan Officials Arrested in Rural Corruption Probe: Commune President and Authority Agent Implicated

The regional judicial police service of Errachidia opened, on Thursday, March 12, an investigation into the crimes of financial corruption attributed to a president of a rural commune and an authority agent (caïd). They are suspected of having requested and received a bribe to carry out an act within the scope of their duties.
According to the initial elements of the investigation, a local investor filed a complaint with the competent prosecutor’s office, claiming to have been the victim of blackmail, to which the prosecutor’s office immediately reacted by ordering the judicial police to investigate the case, indicates the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), in a press release.
The investigation led to the arrest, in flagrante delicto of receiving sums of money as a bribe, of the president of the rural commune, the caïd, in a Caïdat located about 56 kilometers from the city of Errachidia, in the direction of Rich.
The arrests and seizures were carried out under the direct supervision and constant presence of a representative of the public prosecutor’s office in charge of the investigation, who gave instructions to place the commune president in custody, at the disposal of the judicial investigation, while an exceptional competence procedure was applied to the authority agent, in accordance with the provisions of the Penal Code.
