Marrakech Official Arrested: Rural Commune President Faces Corruption Charges

In Marrakech, a new case involving the president of a rural commune under the wilaya of the city is making headlines. Arrested on January 21 in flagrante delicto of corruption, the latter will be brought before the court under arrest, and prosecuted for corruption.

On January 21, the president of the rural commune in question was arrested by the police, under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office, in flagrante delicto of receiving the sum of 110,000 dirhams that he is said to have demanded from a Moroccan residing abroad, in exchange for an administrative service, reports.

The president of the rural commune in question will not be long in being ruled on his fate. Indeed, a press release from the Attorney General of the King near the Court of Appeal of Marrakech has just specified that the accused will be brought before the court under arrest, and prosecuted for corruption, in accordance with Article 248 of the Penal Code.

The accused faces a sentence of between five and ten years in prison and a fine of 5,000 to 100,000 dirhams, in accordance with the provisions of Article 248 of the Penal Code in cases of offenses where the amount is greater than 100,000 dirhams.
