Moroccan Oasis Fire Destroys Over 4,000 Trees Amid Heatwave in Errachidia Region

Several thousand palm trees and olive trees were ravaged by a fire that broke out in the Ziz oasis, in Aoufous, in the Errachidia region.
The fire decimated more than 2,540 palm trees and 1,500 olive trees, over an area of 20 hectares, according to local authorities, cited by the MAP. They specify that the fire caused no loss of human life.
The fire was completely brought under control thanks to the intervention of Civil Protection, aided, for this purpose, by the Gendarmerie services as well as by the local population, it is also indicated.
It would be the heat wave that usually affects the entire region at this time of year that would be the cause of this fire, explain the same sources, who recall that "the local authorities of the province of Errachidia have developed a strategy to fight forest and oasis fires".
To this effect, several meetings have been held since the beginning of the year, "aimed at preventing forest fires, particularly in the oases spread throughout the province of Errachidia".
