Moroccan Minister Faces Backlash Over Alleged Protocol Breach with Princess Lalla Hasnaa
The Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leïla Benali, has been strongly criticized for her "disrespectful behavior" towards Princess Lalla Hasnaa.
What exactly is she being accused of? According to numerous comments posted on social media, the politician did not respect the protocol when she met the princess. She shook her hand "as if she was doing it with one of her friends", not hesitating to put the other hand on that of the princess.
According to Rue20, by shaking the princess’s hand in front of the cameras, Minister Leïla Benali "showed a state of confusion", which angered many Moroccan officials. In addition, she is accused of having treated the Moroccan delegation with "condescension".
For the record, Princess Lalla Hasnaa, president of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, was in Dubai as part of COP 28 which has been taking place there for a few days.
