Moroccan Man Sentenced to Prison, Fined €50,000 for Smuggling 28kg of Cannabis into France

The Bayonne court sentenced a 34-year-old Moroccan man to two years in prison (with continued detention) and one year suspended. He had been arrested on the road to the Col d’Arnéguy while transporting 28 kilos of cannabis resin to the Val-d’Oise.
In addition to the prison sentence, Abdelouahid B. was fined 50,000 euros. He appeared on Thursday before the Bayonne court. The facts he is accused of date back to February 11. Leaving the suburbs of Bilbao for the Val-d’Oise, the Moroccan was arrested on the road to the Col d’Arnéguy after customs officers discovered 28 kilos of cannabis resin in the trunk of his Mégane, reports Sud Ouest. He had tried to flee after the discovery, but was stopped in his tracks. He had tried to enter a house, before falling into a bush. "It was stupid. It was my car, I had my ID card in it, my driver’s license, I acted in a panic," he explains at the bar.
Defending himself, this unemployed person at the end of his rights who is trying to retrain as a bus driver said that 4,000 euros were promised to him in exchange for the trip. "I let myself be influenced by an acquaintance, after refusing three or four times. I shouldn’t have. [...] I just want to rebuild myself," he regretted. After the verdict, Abdelouahid returned to prison.
