Moroccan Man Sentenced for Domestic Abuse in Quimper, France

Arrested on April 21, 2021 in Quimper, a 25-year-old Moroccan was sentenced last Friday to two months in prison with a suspended sentence for violence committed against his wife.

Whether in Morocco or in France, he made his wife’s life a living hell. They met in the kingdom in a company where they were working. In April 2017, they move in together. This is the beginning of a nightmare for the young woman who finds herself all alone with a jealous and possessive man. She suffered domestic violence (kicks, shoe blows to the head, slaps in the face) from her husband who learned that she had had a relationship with another man before meeting him, reports Le Télégramme.

In 2018, the couple gets married. The domestic violence starts again with a vengeance. He slaps her in the street, thinking she was looking at another man. The woman is not allowed to wear makeup... The relationship continues "with its ups and downs". The man seems to settle down a bit. But the aggressive gestures, the slaps resume after the couple settled in Quimper. The young woman called on a dog trainer to train her puppy towards the end of this month. A new argument breaks out. According to her husband, there would be a relationship between them. Insults, blows to the buttocks, to the shoulder, fists follow one another. He ends up with threats: "If you cheat on me, I’ll kill you."

The acts of violence committed against his partner in Quimper will not go unpunished. The police arrest the accused at the marital home on April 21, 2021. He appeared in court on Friday. "Sir, do you know that in France, the woman is the equal of the man? That she can wear makeup, that she can look at another man in the street, without risking a beating when she gets home?" the public prosecutor, Marie-Noëlle Collobert, gets angry. "You insult her daily, call her a bitch, a whore, all day long. Is that love?" she still asserts.

On the stand, the victim testifies: "He can be very kind, very friendly. But when he’s angry, he can’t control himself." The verdict is in: the man was sentenced to two months in prison with a suspended sentence. He is also required to pay 300 euros to the victim for the damage suffered.
