Wheelchair-Bound Man Jailed for Domestic Abuse Against Moroccan Wife in France

The Val de Briey Judicial Court (Meurthe-et-Moselle) sentenced a wheelchair-bound man to two years in prison, with one year of probationary suspension, with continued detention, for domestic violence against his Moroccan wife, between November 2020 and April 2021. The defendant is in prison, after an immediate appearance.
Their married life has not been a smooth one. According to the wife’s statements, the violence is regular. Fleeing her violent husband, she found refuge at the police station on April 11, reports Le Républicain Lorrain. Spousal violence that caused a 3-day work stoppage. During the trial on Thursday, the president of the Val de Briey Judicial Court, Ombline Parry, recalled the facts attributed to the defendant: "She would have been pushed down the stairs, dragged on the ground. You would have hit her on the head, until pointing a knife blade to her throat".
"We often argue but all the marks she has on her body are accidental! Our accommodation is not adapted," explains the wheelchair-bound detainee. [...] "I have permanent motor paralysis. Even if I move with crutches, I can’t kick..." Prosecutor Catherine Galen does not believe this story. "How do you explain the facial injuries and black eyes? [...] And why did you take her for a PCR test? Was she willing to go back to Morocco?" "Her own mother told me: ’If it’s not going well, you send her back to me!’, replies the husband, before claiming that his wife is "bewitched". But not bad at heart: she picked me up, helped me..."
Thomas Kremser, the wife’s lawyer, is stunned. He says his client is like "a 21st century slave who has no right to go out alone, to drive, just the right to take care of Mr., to have sexual relations with him, to wash his mother-in-law, otherwise she goes back to the country!" The husband’s lawyer refutes his remarks. "Mr. takes Mrs. to school so she can learn French. She has a phone and actually takes photos as soon as she has a bruise," he says, pleading for his client’s acquittal. The prosecutor requested 3 years and 6 months of actual imprisonment against the violent husband.
The verdict is in: the court sentences Mourad Aissaoui to two years in prison, with one year of probationary suspension, with continued detention, an obligation of care and a ban on appearing at the marital home.
