Moroccan Man Arrested After Threatening to Set Fire to Hospital Maternity Ward

The police arrested a Moroccan who locked himself in a room at the Son Llàtzer hospital in Palma, with his wife and their newborn inside, threatening to self-immolate and set fire to the maternity ward.

The police set up an emergency device at the hospital and sent a negotiator who, after more than an hour of exchanges, managed to convince the Moroccan to give up his project. The Moroccan was threatening to burn his wife and the baby and "set fire to the maternity ward". Thanks to the quick intervention of the national police, the worst was avoided, reports Ultima Hora.

The incident occurred on Friday afternoon, when IMAS informed the Moroccan, whose wife had just given birth, that the child’s custody would be taken away from him due to his involvement in several serious cases. It was then that the Moroccan began to get angry and finally barricaded himself in the room where his wife and the baby were, threatening to self-immolate and set fire to the maternity ward and the hospital.

The Moroccan did not have any firearms or knives on him, but could have made a weapon with objects found in the hospital room, which is why the agents took all the necessary protection measures to arrest him. After managing to get him out of the room and away from his wife and baby, the man was finally arrested in the hallway as he was trying to return to the room.
