The Moroccan justice system cracks down after the scene of chaos at the Rabat stadium

Law enforcement officers arrested 19 individuals following acts of violence and hooliganism that occurred at the Prince Moulay Abdellah complex. These incidents broke out on Sunday evening following the final of the Africa Cup of Nations between Morocco and Senegal.

Thus, eighteen Senegalese supporters and one Algerian supporter were apprehended. The disturbances began following the contestation of a refereeing decision awarding a penalty in favor of the Moroccan team, as well as the withdrawal of players ordered by the Senegalese coach.

A group of supporters then committed acts of vandalism, including "physical assaults against Moroccan journalists" who were covering the match. Clashes also occurred between these individuals and the security forces in charge of the stadium, along with attempts to damage the sports complex’s facilities.

The intervention of the public forces made it possible to contain the situation and restore order within the stadium. The arrested individuals were subjected to the legal procedures in force under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office. An investigation is underway to determine the responsibilities and pronounce the necessary sanctions.
