Moroccan Interior Ministry Suspends Béni-Méllal Mayor Over Corruption Allegations

By deciding to suspend Ahmed Chada from his duties, the Ministry of the Interior does not intend to stop there. The supervisory authority has transferred the file to the administrative court of Rabat, which will look into it as early as next week with a verdict that should not come as a surprise.

Indeed, according to Le360, the president of the commune of Béni-Méllal is accused of cases of mismanagement, embezzlement, irregularities in the awarding of public contracts and other frauds.

Moreover, according to several Interior commissions that carried out checks on various cases, there are still ambiguities about Ahmed Chada’s rapid enrichment in a few years. This is how damning reports were written against the president of the commune of Béni-Méllal who also chairs the Interior Commission in the House of Advisors.

The same source indicates that the violations committed by Ahmed Chada, under Article 64 of the organic law on communes, had already been notified to him by a letter from the General Inspectorate.

Following the Ahmed Chada case, several other commune and regional presidents will be questioned in the coming days for "fraud and corruption", the same media claims.
