Moroccan Court Removes Islamist Mayor, Deputies for Urban Planning Violations

The president of the commune of Aït Melloul, El Houcine El Asri and two of his deputies, were dismissed, on Monday, February 10, 2020, from their duties, for "serious" violations of the legislation relating to urban planning. This is the judgment rendered by the administrative court of Agadir.
In addition to the president of the commune of Aït Melloul, El Houcine El Asri, the third deputy, Ahmed Enjiri, in charge of urban planning issues, and El Houcine El Aouami, president of the commission for urban planning, land use planning and the environment of the commune, are the two other officials relieved of their duties.
This decision of the administrative court of Agadir follows a complaint from the governor of the province. In his complaint, he had denounced "serious" violations of the legislation relating to urban planning, which were noted by the General Inspection of Territorial Administration (IGAT).
