Moroccan Insurers Deny COVID-19 Test Reimbursements, Sparking Policyholder Outrage

Insurances refuse to reimburse the costs related to Covid-19 treatment and screening tests in the Kingdom. This is in defiance of the commitment of the Federation of Insurances and the Health Insurance Agency, which indicate that these care should be covered.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, relations between policyholders and insurance companies have been tense. The former accuse the companies of being more concerned with their own interests. This is the case with a well-known insurance company that has refused to reimburse its affiliates for the costs incurred for Covid-19 screening tests, particularly those with negative test results, reports the daily Assabah, stating that this is on the grounds that this risk is not covered by the insurance contract.

However, the same source points out that the Moroccan Federation of Insurance and Reinsurance Companies (FMSAR), as well as the National Health Insurance Agency (ANAM), had indicated, through a press release each, that the expenses related to the treatment and screening of Covid-19 were reimbursable, provided that this care was prescribed by a doctor.

Also, the victims of this treatment are calling on the ANAM (which is the only authority responsible for defending their interests) and the Directorate of Insurance and Social Welfare (ACAPS) to put an end to the abuses of this company that defies the FMSAR and the ANAM, concludes the daily.
