Moroccan Influencers Face Backlash Over Lavish Ramadan Posts

On the web, many Internet users are outraged by certain videos posted by influencers during this month of Ramadan, promoting practices contrary to Moroccan culture.
The video posted by the famous Moroccan influencer "Sanae" boasting of a sumptuous iftar table is not to the liking of many Internet users. This video shows in detail the ritual of iftar on the first day of Ramadan: from the clothing and decoration of the dining room to the iftar table, laden with various dishes. Even the presentation of the dishes is surprising and questioning. "Since when do Moroccans break their fast in this way in their homes?" wonder Moroccan Internet users.
These Internet users have criticized this influencer, described as controversial, thirsty for fame, in pursuit of a simple "buzz", without caring about the negative impact that her publications would have. In addition to Sanae, several new influencers and celebrities who have introduced strange habits and astonishing rituals, marked by opulence and luxury, into the Ramadan iftar have also faced criticism from Moroccan Internet users. The latter remind that the holy month is a time dedicated to spirituality, meditation and empathy towards the less fortunate.

Social networks are now accessible to "anyone who wants them", becoming a tool for promotion, while the month of Ramadan remains, for the majority of Moroccans, a month of worship and strengthening of family ties, pointed out the sociologist Ali Chaâbani, from the University Mohammed V of Rabat, in an interview with the Al Arabiya website. According to his explanations, Moroccans are used to seeing iftar tables intended for the poor and needy, organized by individuals or associations, publicly or discreetly, in order to avoid embarrassing those in need and so that these aids do not go out of their original context.
Like many Moroccan Internet users, Chaâbani also condemns these foreign practices introduced by the influencers. These practices do not reflect the culture of Moroccan society, he estimated, before questioning the reasons that push these influencers to act in this way.
