Moroccan Handball Players Vanish in Greece, Suspected Defection Sparks Investigation

While they were traveling to Patras in Greece to participate in the Mediterranean Beach Games, two players of the Moroccan national handball team disappeared into thin air. For this new case of "Hrig" in Moroccan handball, suspicions of complicity hover over members of the Royal Moroccan Handball Federation (FRMH).

The two deserting players are named Zouhair Ouasfi, goalkeeper of Muntada Derb Sultan, and Ismail El Alami, player of AS Far. They waited until the end of the competition to leave the team’s residence before melting into nature. The rest of the Moroccan delegation therefore returned to the Kingdom without these two players, indicates the daily Assabah of Tuesday, September 3.

However, despite the request to open an investigation into the defection of these players by several Moroccan handball stakeholders, on the side of the Royal Moroccan Handball Federation, they refuse to believe that it is a "Hrig" of these two players. They prefer to play down, hoping for a possible return of the persons concerned to Morocco, arguing that their visas have not yet expired.

Moreover, the same newspaper has noted a rather surprising fact. It is the case of the goalkeeper Zouhair Ouasfi who would have been added at the last minute to the list of selected players. The daily is surprised that despite the fact that he would have replaced another player, the President of the Moroccan delegation would have handed over to the two missing players their passports with valid visas, on the orders of a member of the FRMH.

According to the same source, the two players would have contacted members of their families residing in Italy and France, who came to pick them up after recovering their passports.
