Moroccan Gendarmerie Commander Arrested for Evidence Tampering in Drug Baron Case

The commander of the Royal Gendarmerie brigade in Ksar El-Kébir was arrested for having removed seized items after the arrest of a drug baron. He was referred to the Attorney General of the King near the Court of Appeal of Tangier.

This gendarmerie officer is accused "of having taken possession of mobile phones seized after the arrest of a drug baron and of mentioning others in the reports drawn up on the occasion," reports the daily Assabah, specifying that the drug baron in question "was arrested by the judicial police of Larache before being transferred to the gendarmerie brigade of Ksar El-Kébir which had issued a national arrest warrant against him for drug trafficking".

The transfer report to Ksar El-Kébir listed the items seized in his possession, including three mobile phones of a certain brand. It turns out that during the investigation, "the regional commander received information indicating that the mobile phones seized by the judicial police of Larache were replaced by others in Ksar El-Kébir". This is how the investigators found that the three phones mentioned in the report of the Ksar El-Kébir gendarmes did not correspond to those seized by the judicial police of Larache.

After this finding, the commander of the Royal Gendarmerie brigade was arrested and placed in custody, then presented to the investigating judge near the Court of Appeal of Tangier. The seized mobile phones will be analyzed to determine the motives for the commander’s act. The investigation is ongoing.
