Moroccan Footballer Sofian Kiyine Hospitalized After Serious Car Accident, Father Keeps Vigil

Radouane, the father of Sofian Kiyine, the Moroccan player of OH Louvain, victim of a serious accident on March 30 in Flémalle in the province of Liège, is devastated. Every day, he goes to his son’s bedside, who is still in the hospital.
"We don’t understand what happened. It’s incomprehensible. Sofian is a nice, calm boy. He’s not a Fangio of the road. He doesn’t do drugs and hardly ever drinks alcohol," Radouane, Sofian’s father, confides to La Dernière Heure. The Liège public prosecutor’s office confirms that the young Moroccan-born footballer has no criminal record, even in terms of road traffic.
While waiting for the conclusions of the investigation into this spectacular accident, Radouane says that his son is "psychologically very affected" and grateful "for the miracle that happened to him, and especially for the others. He cries thinking that he could have injured or killed children! It’s very hard."
Regarding his son’s health and professional career, Radouane believes that this is not the most important thing right now. "For now, what matters is Sofian as a person, not Sofian the professional footballer," he said. Moreover, OH Louvain, the Belgian first division club, has decided to suspend the player to allow the investigation to proceed "serenely".
Sofian should leave the hospital in the next few days and also be heard quickly by the police. Last Thursday, Sofian Kiyine, at the wheel of his Mercedes, entered a roundabout at high speed located near the Louis Melin sports hall in Flémalle. The vehicle hit a curb, projecting itself into the air several tens of meters before crossing one of the walls of the sports hall.
