Moroccan Father Sentenced to One Year for Child Abuse with Rubber Whip

The investigating judge at the court of first instance in El Jadida sentenced a family man to one year in prison, for acts of violence against his son. The verdict was handed down last Thursday.
According to the daily Assabah, the man is accused of having assaulted his child with a rubber whip, causing deep lesions on different parts of his body.
The defendant eventually admitted the facts, after being confronted with the testimony of his wife. The latter, in her forties, had supported her statement with a medical certificate attesting to a physical incapacity of 25 days.
The father had been arrested last week by the royal gendarmerie services of Azzemour, following a complaint filed by his wife with the Public Prosecutor’s Office in El Jadida.
