Moroccan Father Evicts Son from Spanish Apartment After 13-Year Stay

Mourad El Yassini, 53, was evicted on Tuesday from his father’s house in Palma de Mallorca where he has been living for thirteen years. It is the latter, living in Tetouan, Morocco, who has been pursuing the eviction procedure against his son for a year.
Mourad has lived in Palma for 22 years. But for the last 13 years, he has lived in his father’s house located in Pere Garau. The father, around 80 years old and based in Tetouan, has been trying to evict him for a year to recover the property. On Tuesday, about twenty national police officers went to the apartment and proceeded to evict Mourad, reports Ultima Hora.
During the eviction, Mourad’s wife was injured in the hand as she tried to block the apartment door. Her husband took her to the hospital. The couple plans to take legal action against the agents. "We are devastated. I never imagined my parents could do this. I’ve been through a lot in my life, but nothing like this. I’m overwhelmed," Mourad said by phone, still in shock.
For now, Mourad is staying with his pregnant wife and youngest son at a friend’s place. This situation is due to a "very complex" family problem, he explains, specifying that this conflict with his parents has been going on for about four years when he introduced them to his wife. "That’s when the problems started. My parents didn’t want her because she wasn’t wealthy," he detailed.
For four years, Mourad has had no contact with his parents or his brothers. Before, he would pay 2,000 or 3,000 euros to his father each time he visited him in Tetouan. But he had no lease for this Palma apartment bought by his father in 2011, he points out, adding that the latter was even willing to put the said apartment in his name. Now that he has been evicted, Mourad doesn’t know what to do: stay in Palma, or leave.
