Moroccan Woman’s Body Remains in Spanish Morgue Year After Domestic Homicide

It has already been a year since Imane Saadaoui was killed by her husband in Valencia. The body of the Moroccan woman is still kept in the morgue for the needs of the investigation. Her parents are trying to repatriate her to Morocco to bury her with dignity.
On November 1, 2022, after spending the entire afternoon in a bar, Badr, Imane’s husband, returns home and stabs her several times. It is Imane’s best friend in Caceres who informs her parents in Morocco of the sad news. While waiting for their arrival in Spain a month later, in December, their 14-month-old son was placed in a juvenile center.
Today, a year after her murder, Imane’s body is still kept in a morgue in Almeria, after a first autopsy performed at the Cáceres Institute of Forensic Medicine. "My daughter has been in a refrigerator for a year. We need to bury her to be at peace," Moustafa Saadaoui, Imane’s father, told El Periodico Extremadura by phone.
Imane’s parents have managed to obtain custody of their grandson, after more than seven months of procedures. Since July, they have returned to Morocco with the 2-year-old minor. "He has adapted very well. He is doing very well with his sister," Moustafa assures.
Meanwhile, the accused, Imane’s husband, is still in pre-trial detention, pending his trial which should start within six months, the time for the investigation to be completed. Imane’s parents are demanding justice. "We need justice and the closure of the case to end this nightmare."
