Moroccan Expats Face Legal Action for Fake COVID-19 Tests at Border

Moroccans living abroad (MREs) are facing justice. And for good reason, they presented fake Covid-19 tests upon arrival at the port of Tanger Med.

Many of them are being prosecuted for forgery and have been brought before the public prosecutor’s office, reports Al Massae. It took the port authorities to call on a specialized medical team in charge of checking the authenticity of the certificates provided by the travelers for the deception to be discovered.

These MREs bought fake negative Covid-19 test certificates in southern Spain for 20 euros. They try to justify their act: having a real test done in a laboratory is very expensive. Prices range from 100 to 140 euros. Some have complained about the high cost of rapid PCR tests carried out in Europe, the price of which can exceed 300 euros.

One of the representatives of the Moroccan diaspora in Spain has also launched an appeal to the Moroccan authorities. His wish, he will say, is to see the MREs benefit from free tests carried out at border posts at a reasonable price. According to this Moroccan resident in Europe, the high cost of Covid-19 tests has forced many families to cancel their trip to Morocco.
