Moroccan Doctors Outraged by Meager Covid-19 Bonus, Spark Legal Action and Protests

The daily bonus of 14 dirhams as recognition for doctors engaged in the fight against Covid-19 has provoked strong reactions. A doctor from Kénitra has taken legal action against the Minister of Health, and the staff of the Marrakech University Hospital Center are planning a protest sit-in.
The chief physician of a hospital in Kénitra has decided to take the Minister of Health to court, reports Assabah. For him, this allowance is a "farce". In the eyes of the university hospital staff, this bonus is "offensive". According to the National Union of Public Health (SNSP), the caregivers and nursing assistants working in the university hospitals of Casablanca, Marrakech, Fez, Oujda and Rabat have expressed their frustration and consternation.
According to the SNSP, they fear not being covered by this bonus granted to doctors in regional and provincial hospitals. The union denounces a discriminatory distribution of the allowance. It calls for a revision of this allowance and for it to be paid to doctors working in university hospitals, the real frontline health workers in the fight against Covid-19 without any exclusion.
For their part, the staff of the Marrakech University Hospital Center are planning a protest sit-in. Their colleagues in Kénitra refuse to receive this "humiliating" allowance.
