Moroccan diesel tops 16 dirhams a litre, adding nearly 175 dirhams to a 50-litre fill-up since July
Diesel now costs more than 16 dirhams a litre at several stations in Morocco. The October 1 increase adds further to the bill: for 50 litres, the difference from prices in early July is approaching 175 dirhams.

The latest increase adds about 80 centimes per litre to diesel, which is selling for around 16.10 dirhams. Prices recorded vary slightly by distributor and city.

This increase alone adds 40 dirhams to the cost of a 50-litre fill-up. Petrol is also going up, but by less: about 39 centimes per litre, bringing the average price to 15.60 dirhams.
3.49 dirhams more per litre since July
In early July, prices were still moving in the opposite direction. After several consecutive cuts, diesel had fallen back to around 12.61 dirhams. The reprieve did not last: increases resumed in mid-July, continued in August and then in September.
The latest increase brings the gap with the price at the start of summer to 3.49 dirhams per litre. From 12.61 to 16.10 dirhams, prices have risen by about 27.7% in three months.

For 50 litres of diesel, the bill therefore rises from around 630.50 dirhams in early July to 805 dirhams today. For the same amount, motorists pay 174.50 dirhams more.
