Morocco: Filling up costs 50 dirhams more, but the worst has been avoided

Oil distributors applied the new prices from Sunday, August 2, at 11:50 p.m. Both diesel and premium petrol recorded an identical increase of one dirham per litre.

At the Kingdom’s main service stations, diesel should now cost around 14.30 dirhams per litre, compared with approximately 13.30 dirhams previously. Petrol should reach nearly 15.24 dirhams, up from 14.24 dirhams.

These prices remain indicative. They may vary slightly depending on the cities, distributors and delivery costs applied in certain regions.

50 dirhams more for a full tank

For a motorist filling a 50-litre tank, this new adjustment represents an additional cost of 50 dirhams. The bill will be higher for transport professionals, whose vehicles consume more and require several fill-ups per week.

The increase nevertheless remains below the initial estimates circulating on the market. These had raised fears of an increase of two to three dirhams per litre, particularly for diesel.

This new adjustment comes less than three weeks after the one on July 16. Diesel had then increased by 65 to 70 centimes per litre, while petrol had risen by between 38 and 39 centimes.

Fuel prices have therefore recorded two consecutive increases after several decreases observed in June and at the beginning of July. The course of future prices will depend mainly on international oil prices, refined-product prices and the supply conditions of Moroccan distributors.
