Moroccan Diaspora Boycotts Armas Ferry Company Over Missing Passenger Case

Moroccans residing abroad, specifically those from the Rif region, have launched a boycott campaign against Armas, whom they criticize for remaining silent since the disappearance of young Moroccan Marouane El Mokadem, who boarded one of the Spanish company’s ships on May 24, 2024, departing from Beni Ensar and bound for the port of Motril.
Using the hashtag (#WeAreAllMarouaneElMokadem), the initiators of the boycott campaign urge members of the Moroccan community abroad to cancel their trips on Armas ships, even if they had already been booked, "out of respect for the victim’s right to uncover the truth." For them, the silence of the Spanish company is no longer acceptable. They call on Armas and the Spanish and Moroccan authorities to "assume their responsibilities." They expect them to clarify the circumstances of the disappearance, publish the results of the investigation to allow Marouane’s family to know the fate of the young man.
The deceased’s family is receiving support from several members of the community. Continuing to use this company would be tantamount to "normalizing negligence and lack of transparency in travel conditions and maritime safety," they believe.
