Moroccan Family Launches Boycott Against Ferry Company Over Son’s Disappearance

After undertaking several unsuccessful attempts to learn the truth, the family of Marouan El Mokadem, a young Moroccan who disappeared on May 24, 2024, after boarding an Armas ferry from Beni Ensar to the port of Motril, is launching a boycott campaign against the Spanish company, which operates several important maritime routes as part of the Marhaba operation.
The family of Marouan El Mokadem is angry with Armas. They have expressed this through a series of protests and sit-ins organized in front of the company’s headquarters in Beni Ensar. Some family members have gone on hunger strikes to demand truth and justice. Faced with Armas’ persistent silence, the family of the missing young man has launched a campaign to boycott the company. This campaign is already gaining strong support within the Moroccan community in Europe, particularly on social media.
This boycott campaign could, the family hopes, have a real impact on the performance of Armas, which operates several important maritime routes between Motril and Almeria to the ports of Nador and Al Hoceima during the Marhaba operation marking the return to Morocco of Moroccans residing abroad (MRE). This operation is scheduled to begin on June 15.
