Moroccan Customs Bust Illegal Plastic Bag Factory in Tangier Crackdown

An operation to combat fraud carried out by the customs and indirect taxes elements of Tangier led to the dismantling of an illegal plastic bag manufacturing plant.
The plant in question is located in the commune of Jouamaa, in the province of Fahs-Anjra. It was on the basis of precise information that the customs and tax services managed to identify this clandestine plastic bag manufacturing plant. According to the customs and indirect taxes officer in Tangier, Abdelghani Seghiri, the plant was operating in non-compliance with the provisions of law n°77-15 prohibiting the manufacture, import, export, marketing and use of plastic bags.
He specified that the individuals involved in this case will be prosecuted in court. According to the Map, this is the second time an operation of this kind has been carried out in the city of Tangier. In less than two months, the customs services have been able to seize 9 tons of plastic bags worth around 400,000 dirhams.
The acting head of the mobile customs brigade in Tangier, Mohamed Harma, stressed that the quantities of bags seized will be destroyed in full compliance with environmental standards.
