Customs Seize $250,000 Worth of Smuggled Textiles in Tangier Raid

Smuggled clothing and fabrics worth a total of around 2.5 million dirhams were seized in Tangier on Wednesday. This was an operation carried out by customs and indirect tax elements in collaboration with the judicial police.
Three home searches were carried out in Tangier, resulting in the seizure of a large quantity of fabrics and clothing worth around 2.5 million dirhams, said Colonel Abdelkader Battani, regional commander of the customs brigades in Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima.
The searches conducted over weeks in collaboration with elements of the Judicial Brigade of Béni Makada in Tangier, resulted in the seizure of 28 tons of fabrics and 4,670 units of ready-to-wear clothing for women, men and children. The operation carried out in various neighborhoods of Tangier also resulted in the seizure of 590 kg of labels of global brand logos, intended to be placed on textile products.
The competent public prosecutor’s office ordered the opening of an investigation, in order to identify all the actors involved in this operation, to dismantle this criminal network specialized in the smuggling of fabrics, emphasized Colonel Battani.
