Moroccan Court Sentences Assailant to 8 Years for Violent Robbery of German Tourist in Tangier

Prosecuted on several counts, including multiple thefts, forming a criminal gang, and violence, an individual involved in the physical assault of a German tourist has received a heavy prison sentence.
The criminal chamber of first instance at the Tangier Court of Appeal sentenced, at the end of the week, an individual to 8 years in prison. He is suspected of assaulting a German tourist and stealing her personal belongings at the beginning of May. The tourist had been violently stripped of her personal belongings by an individual on a motorcycle, which caused her to fall to the ground and suffer facial injuries.
The suspect was arrested shortly after the assault. Police investigations revealed his involvement in other thefts. The prosecutor then charged him with several counts, including multiple thefts, forming a criminal gang, and violence. The court obtained photos and video footage from surveillance cameras, documenting the moment the crime was committed.
During the trial, the accused denied his involvement. He claimed that another individual had committed the criminal act. A version he maintained until his conviction.
