Moroccan Court Acquits Police Commissioner of Corruption Charges in Expatriate Case

The Court of Appeal in Marrakech has just confirmed the first instance judgment, acquitting a police commissioner, head of the Kelaâ Sraghna district, accused of corruption by a Moroccan expatriate residing in Italy.
The commissioner was brought before the public prosecutor’s office for his alleged involvement in a corruption case. He was accused by a Moroccan national in Italy of having asked him for a bribe of 5,000 dirhams.
According to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security, an investigation had been opened by the regional judicial police service to inquire into the merits of the accusation, especially since the commissioner had, according to the Moroccan expatriate, offered his mediation in a contentious case.
The statement adds that the accused had undertaken to obtain the lifting of the seizure of a file belonging to the Moroccan expatriate, in exchange for 5,000 dirhams. He had been caught in the act of corruption.
