Imprisoned Rif Protest Leader Visits Cancer-Stricken Father, Renewing Calls for Release

Nasser Zefzafi, leader of the Hirak of the Rif detained in the Tanger 2 prison, visited his father Ahmed Zefzafi, 80 years old, who is suffering from cancer and admitted to the intensive care unit of the Mohammed VI hospital in Ajdir, on Monday, August 25.
Ahmed Zefzafi’s health has deteriorated in recent times due to a cancer that was diagnosed to him. The octogenarian has constantly called for the release of his son Nasser and the other detainees of the Hirak of the Rif. But his wish has not been granted so far.
A human rights activist, who informed about Nasser Zefzafi’s visit to his father, took the opportunity to call on the Moroccan authorities once again to release the Hirak detainees, deploring the failure of previous initiatives.
This is the second visit of Nasser Zefzafi to his father, after a first one carried out just a few days ago. The prisoner had gone to Al Hoceima where his father was undergoing chemotherapy treatment. A humanitarian gesture that had been welcomed.
