Moroccan Customs Seize Record 167 Million Dirhams in Foreign Currency Crackdown

The Customs and Indirect Taxes Administration (ADII) seized 167 million dirhams in foreign currency in 2024, representing a 55% increase compared to 2023.
In its 2024 activity report, the ADII indicates that during this period, it "intensified its efforts to control currency movements and prevent money laundering, through the strengthening of the capacities of customs brigades, the organization of specialized training and the improvement of coordination with other security services." "This dynamic has led, during the control of travelers, to the seizure of 167 MDH of foreign currency against 105 MDH in 2023," it specifies.
This result is the fruit of the strengthening of controls at border crossing points and a deepened cooperation with the intelligence services, underlines the ADII, adding that these measures have made it possible to thwart many attempts of illicit capital transfers. Furthermore, "15,572 currency declarations were recorded in the various border offices in 2024, compared to 12,515 in 2023, for a countervalue of more than 2.5 billion dirhams (MMDH)," notes the ADII, hailing the declarative discipline of travelers.
