Moroccan Councilor Dies in Fiery Car Crash After Failed Overtake

A municipal councilor from Ben Mâachou, in the province of Berrechid, died burned, in a traffic accident. His vehicle collided head-on with two vehicles, including a pickup truck coming in the opposite direction.
The incident, which occurred on the road connecting the municipal center of Oulad Abbou and Ben Maâchou, at the level of Douar Rhahla, would have been caused by the excessive speed of the deceased. On his way home after a trip, he would have misjudged an overtaking maneuver before colliding with the first vehicle.
Struck head-on in the rear by the pickup truck, the vehicle caught fire, reports Al Akhbar. The municipal councilor, trapped by the fire in his private vehicle, a Renault 19, succumbed to his injuries.
Alerted, the local administrative authorities, the Royal Gendarmerie and the Civil Protection went to the scene to provide assistance to the injured and transfer them to the regional hospital in Settat.
As for the driver of the pickup truck, he was placed in custody, on the orders of the public prosecutor’s office, for the purposes of the investigation opened to determine the circumstances of this tragedy.
