Moroccan Club RS Berkane Fined $500,000 by FIFA in Player Contract Dispute

Renaissance sportive de Berkane loses its legal battle against Ugandan player Patrick Henry Kaddu. The club has just been heavily sanctioned in this case by the FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber.

A difficult end of the year for the RS de Berkane who is ordered to pay more than 5 million dirhams as compensation to its former player Patrick Henry Kaddu for not honoring its commitment to him.

According to the FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber, the club from the Oriental region must pay 1,257,626 DH and $15,000 in outstanding remuneration plus an annual interest of 5% from November 3, 2021 until the date of payment. It must then pay 4,090,000 DH in compensation for breach of contract, plus an annual interest of 5% from November 3 until the date of payment. In case of non-payment, the club will be exposed to FIFA sanctions.

Recruited in August 2019, the Ugandan player signed a contract that was to expire on June 30, 2023 for the sum of 5.04 million dirhams spread over several installments. The club also committed to paying the player a housing allowance estimated at 4,000 dirhams. In an annex to the contract, the two parties specified that to the extent that the variable remuneration payable of 5.04 million dirhams would become fixed remuneration, the club undertakes to pay the said amount to the player in nine installments, and this from August 31, 2020 to March 31, 2023 at the latest. A commitment that the club was unable to honor, prompting the player to take the matter to FIFA.
