The city of Essaouira was the second hottest in the world on Tuesday, August 12, with a temperature of 47.9°C, according to El Dorado Weather, a real-time weather monitoring platform. Three other Moroccan cities are on this list.
Essaouira, and more specifically the region of Mogador International Airport, ranked second on this list of the hottest cities in the world on Tuesday, with a temperature of 47.9°C, just behind the city of Al Ahsa in Saudi Arabia, in the lead with 48.9°C.
We also find in this top 15 compiled by the international website El Dorado Weather three other Moroccan cities: Taroudant (6th with 47.2°C), Smara (7th with 47.1°C) and Safi (12th with 46.5°C), as well as several cities in Saudi Arabia, Iran, Qatar and Egypt.
This strong presence of Morocco in the ranking reveals the intensity of the heatwave hitting the kingdom, with temperatures regularly exceeding 45°C in several regions.
This ranking by the Dorado Weather platform is based on data from international weather station networks and NOAA, the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
