Moroccan TV Channel 2M Faces Lawsuit Over Unpaid Rent in Al Hoceima

The 2M channel is expected in the court of first instance of Casablanca on October 28. This is following a complaint from the owner of the building housing its regional headquarters in Al Hoceima, who is claiming 7 months of unpaid rent.
The management of the 2M channel is being prosecuted in court for having stopped paying the rent since January until July, the date of its departure from this building, leaving a bill of 105,000 dirhams, reports the daily Assabah, adding that the owner of the building had tried to settle this dispute amicably, but in vain. The officials of the channel persisted in refusing to pay their debt.
The "Soread 2M" company would have remained without paying the rent for 7 months, for the three apartments it occupied in the building. Apartments which, according to Ahmed Talhaoui, the owner of the building, suffered a lot of damage, not repaired, when the company left, in violation of the contract, which requires the tenant to return the said apartments at the end of the lease, in the same state as when they were taken over.
The newspaper explains this situation by the acute financial crisis shaking 2M for many years. A report published a month ago by the Court of Auditors points out that this company has accumulated colossal deficits due to its economic model. The said report stresses that the channel recorded annual losses of 100 million dirhams between 2008 and 2019, that is, one billion dirhams in 10 years. As a result, its regional offices accumulate rent arrears and suffer from drinking water cuts, due to lack of resources.
