Moroccan-Born Runner Shatters 32-Year-Old Spanish 1,500m Record

Moroccan-origin athlete Adel Mechaal is, since last weekend, the Spanish champion of the 1,500 meters. With a time of 3:33.44, he has also just broken the record held for 32 years by a certain Fermín Cacho.
Adel Mechaal, 33, won the Spanish 1,500 meters championship in Torrent (Valencia) last weekend with a time of 3:33.44, ahead of the other Moroccan Mohamed Katir (25 years old) and Mario García Romo (24 years old). With this performance, the Moroccan-origin athlete becomes the new championship record holder, dethroning Fermin Cacho who had held this record for 32 years, reports Sport.es.
This Spanish title is the fourth obtained by Mechaal, but the most important of all due to the quality of his opponents such as Mo Katir (3:28.76) and Mario García Romo (3:29.19).
