Moroccan Authorities Intercept Explosives-Laden Truck Near Abandoned Quarry

A truck loaded with explosives was intercepted on Saturday at nightfall near an abandoned quarry in Benslimane. In addition to the local authorities, the event prompted the arrival of elements from the Royal Armed Forces and the Royal Gendarmerie.
According to the daily Assabah, it was an attempt to restart a construction site, sealed by the authorities due to a fatal accident. The truck was blocked by the inhabitants of a neighboring village.
Following a fall into a ravine, a man had died on this construction site which, according to the conclusions of the investigation, did not comply with safety standards and did not have a separation fence. A petition signed by more than 300 residents had then been presented to the city authorities, the newspaper reports.
The grievances of the population did not prevent the owner of the quarry from resuming the construction work. Worse, adds the same source, the number of quarries in the region is multiplying and represents a real threat to the residents.
