Moroccan Authorities Halt Same-Sex Wedding Ceremony for Foreign Couple

The authorities of the rural commune of Ourika interrupted on Saturday a gay marriage ceremony between a French and a New Zealander in a hotel.
The authorities went to this hotel located in the Taourirte district to put an end to the celebration of this gay marriage, after being informed that such a ceremony was taking place in the establishment in the presence of about fifty foreign guests, according to Barlamane.
Upon the arrival of the authorities, the hotel managers made them believe that it was a birthday party. But the information provided by the establishment’s employees confirmed that a gay marriage between a New Zealander and a French person was being celebrated.
The authorities therefore demanded the immediate interruption of the celebration, reminding the hotel managers that it is strictly forbidden to celebrate gay marriages in Morocco.
