Moroccan Activist Jailed for Facebook Video Criticizing Rif Region Conditions

On May 20, a Moroccan was sentenced to one year in prison for, according to the authorities, "posting a video that incites the commission of crimes and insults against security agents". Ahmed Chibi, as he is called, had indeed dared to denounce the situation in the Rif in a live broadcast on Facebook.
44-year-old Ahmed Chibi was sentenced on May 20 by the Court of First Instance in Al Hoceima. According to the EFE news agency, which reported the information, this latest arrest extends the list of convictions related to the Hirak social movement.
Having taken up the cause of the people convicted in this case, Ahmed had broadcast a live video on his Facebook page in which he criticized the "catastrophic" situation in the northern Rif region. EFE specifies that the Riffian was notably claiming the "innocence" of the Hirak detainees, who have received sentences of up to 20 years in prison. But he paid dearly for it, as he fell into the clutches of justice and was arrested on May 8.
To be more precise about the case of Ahmed Chibi, EFE, citing a judicial source, speaks of a sentence of 1 year in prison and a fine of 3,000 dirhams. And to add that the Riffian will thus join two of his children, who are among the Hirak detainees following their participation in the demonstrations that shook northern Morocco for months.
