Hirak Protest Leader Zefzafi Moved to Al Hoceima Prison Amid Calls for Release

While several NGOs and other associative, political, or even entertainment actors are calling for the release of the Hirak detainees, the latter, including Nasser Zefzafi, were transferred to the prison of Al Hoceïma on Thursday, in order, it is said, to bring them closer to their families.

Sentenced to sentences of up to 20 years in prison, Nasser Zefzafi and other Hirak detainees have just left one prison for another, according to the website Article19, saying it is based on the words of an official source.

Indeed, Article19 writes: "The icon of the Rif Hirak and his detained comrades were transferred this Thursday, from the Oukacha penitentiary complex in Casablanca where they were serving sentences of up to 20 years in prison, to the prison of Al Hoceïma, we learned from an official source".

This source would have declared to the aforementioned media: "In order to bring these detainees closer to their families... it was decided to transfer them to the prison of Al Hoceïma, and this, from this Thursday".

This transfer decision would come from the prison administration, a decision made shortly after the confirmation on appeal, on April 5, of the sentences handed down at first instance against the Hirak detainees.

However, it is worth quoting other words from Article19: "Note that the prison administration has issued a statement indicating that among the 45 Rif detainees concerned, some will be housed in "the various penitentiary centers located in the north of Morocco", without further details".

Nasser Zefzafi had, upon learning of the confirmation on appeal of his 20-year prison sentence, sewn and unsewn his mouth on the same day, in order to condemn this verdict.
