While he came to attend the funeral of his mother, who died on Friday, a Rif activist in the Spanish Basque Country was arrested in Morocco as part of a case of illegal immigration. This happened on Sunday.
"A prominent Rif activist from the Basque Country arrested on arrival in Morocco," headlines Lavanguardia. His name is Khalid Amzir, but his real name is, according to EFE, Khalid H. and he was arrested following a judge’s order in Errachidia on suspicion of being involved in the organization of illegal immigration activities.
EFE also mentions other things than illegal immigration: "Amzir is a prominent activist within the Rif and Moroccan community in general in the Basque Country". He would also have been "a member of many Moroccan associations in the Basque Country". After his arrest, he was, according to EFE, "immediately transferred to Errachidia to appear before the judge".
Voz Populi provides other details: "He would have been arrested last Sunday at the Ceuta border as soon as he entered Morocco".
It should be noted that this man is a candidate in the Bilbao municipal elections, under the banner of the separatist party EH Bildu. This party would have called for his "return to Spain as soon as possible", according to Voz Populi, and says it is closely following the case.
