Spanish Truck Driver Arrested in Morocco for Alleged Human Smuggling Attempt

A 49-year-old driver was arrested on the evening of Thursday, July 1. He is accused of being allegedly involved in a case of attempted organization of an irregular immigration operation.
An international road haulier and owner of a truck registered in Spain, this taxi driver facilitated the entry of illegal immigrants into Spanish territory. On Thursday, August 1, he was arrested for having taken on board his truck a candidate for illegal immigration; he was carefully hidden there. The latter, having reached an unbearable state of suffocation, had his life saved by contacting a relative. He provided the necessary information to the national security services, which thus made it possible to intercept the truck and save the candidate for immigration, through an individual who was receiving sums of money reaching 60,000 dirhams, per candidate.
The investigations carried out have proven that the Spaniard was a regular. He had carried out two identical operations for a sum of 10,000 dirhams, for each candidate.
The defendant was placed in custody for the purposes of the investigation. As for the Spanish national apprehended, he was also placed in custody, at the disposal of the investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, while the search continues to arrest any possible accomplices in this case, according to the same source.
