Mohammedia Residents Protest Mounting Garbage Crisis as Summer Heat Intensifies

Residents of the commune of Chellalat, under the prefecture of Mohammedia, are crying out in disgust. They can no longer stand the nauseating odors coming from the waste that is invading the city, reminding the authorities of their duty to guarantee a healthy environment and preserve the health of citizens.

The commune of Chellalat is experiencing a "catastrophic" environmental situation, the residents denounced to the site Al3omk, explaining that "the spread of waste and their non-transport to the landfill have transformed the neighborhoods into small landfills where garbage accumulates next to the containers, roads and undeveloped land".

The residents expressed their discontent with this situation which is becoming untenable with the rise in temperatures at the beginning of the summer season. Several neighborhoods of the city have been transformed into open-air landfills, under the powerless gaze of the municipal council, they deplored, also evoking the spread of stray dogs, donkeys, mules and rodents in the city.

The stakeholders call on the local authorities to urgently find a sustainable solution to this problem and to review the city’s waste management. Concretely, they ask the municipal council to clean up the neighborhoods, residential complexes and institutions by getting rid of the tons of waste that invade them and emit nauseating odors.
